  • Cividale del Friuli

    Cividale del Friuli Cividale del Friuli was founded in 50. B.C. by Julius Caesar and called Forum Julii, Cividale del Friuli. It was occupied by the Lombards in 568, of which we have visible evidence in the National Archaeological Museum and the Lombard Temple. There are also many other artistic and architectural works which confirm the historical importance of this city such as the Celtic Hypogeum, the Cathedral and the Town Hall. Also of great interest are the historical events which are re-entacted every year, such as the development of the Broadsword and the Palio di San Donato. In June 2011, Cividale was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A must is the remarkable car race Cividale-Castelmonte which is held each year and is an important part of the Italian league of uphill racing.
